Generator Outlet Types
Most portable generators use one of these common outlet types:
- L14-30: 30 Amp, 4-prong twist-lock (most common)
- L14-50: 50 Amp, 4-prong twist-lock (larger generators)
- L5-30: 30 Amp, 3-prong twist-lock (older or smaller units)
Transfer Switch Compatibility
- Manual transfer switches work with any generator brand
- Automatic transfer switches usually require specific brand compatibility
- Match amperage: 30A switch for 30A outlet, 50A for 50A outlet
